Private investment and private business are key factors for the development of Ghana – this was broad consensus shared by the German business community and Ghana’s Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who met for a business lunch on 30th March 2017.
Vice-President Dr. Bawumia outlined the Government´s ambitious agenda to make Ghana the most business-friendly in Africa. His message was: “Ghana is open for business again”. Ghana would also pursue fiscal consolidation. In this context he mentioned that the Public Financial Management Act would be amended this year in order to ensure fiscal stability in Ghana.
Also present was the German Ambassador in Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff. Referring to the target of the Ghanaian government to move from development aid to more private investments, Ambassador Retzlaff said that this policy matched perfectly with the initiative Germany as acting G20 presidency is preparing for the G20-Africa Conference in Berlin in June 2017. A G20-Africa Partnership would aim at bringing more investment and jobs to Africa.
The business lunch was organized by the Delegation of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Accra. After this successful start further meetings between the German business community, the German Embassy andMinisters of the Ghanaian government will take place.
