The Ambassador and the individual sections

The Political Section

The Ambassador is the representative of the German President in Ghana. Maintaining good political relations with the host country is the upmost priority for every German Embassy. The political section observes local political developments and informs the German Government accordingly.

The Legal and Consular Section

The legal and consular section assists German nationals with all legal matters such as passport replacements, public notarisations, legalisation of documents and acts as notary public and registrar office on their behalf. Ghanaians and all other nationals come here to apply for their visas.

Development Cooperation Department

Development Cooperation is one of the focus tasks of the German Embassy in Ghana. Areas of cooperation as well as amounts provided by the German Government  either as loans or as grants are discussed and agreed upon during biannual bilateral government negotiations. German projects are run by experts from KfW, GTZ, CIM, DED, SES as well as a number of NGOs and private individuals. The Embassy provides grants for small scale aid projects and informs about InWEnt scholarship programmes for young professionals.

The Economic Affairs and Trade Promotion Department

Germany is an important investor and trading partner for Ghana. The Embassy supports German companies and business men intending to do business in Ghana, but also Ghanaian companies and business men looking for business contacts in Germany. The Embassy cooperates closely with the Ghanaian-German Economic Association (GGEA).

The Cultural Section

German activities in the cultural area are varied. The Goethe Institut in Accra is offering German language classes and an interesting cultural programme, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) is providing information on studying in Germany and on available scholarship programmes, the Deutsche Welle Agency (DW) is supplying German programmes to Ghana's TV and radio stations, not to forget the polictical foundations, church organisations and private individuals.

The Press and Public Relations Department

The press section analyses the Ghanaian Media and stays in contact with Ghanaian journalists. Ghanaian journalists intending to interview HE Ambassador Dr. Marius Haas should contact the press section first. The press section assists German journalists doing programmes on Ghana, publishes the German Embassy Newsletter (German language only), publishes the 3rd of October Day of German Unity supplement, numerous press releases and last but not least, this website.

The Administration

Without the administration all the other departments could not do their jobs properly. The Head of Administration takes care of all personnel matter (diplomatic as well as local staff), the three buildings, office equipment and materials, technical problems, security issues, communication and mail services and most important - pays the bills.

Regional Mecial Office of the German Embassys in Ghana

The Regional Medical Office is staffed by a physician and a Laboratory Technician, both members of the German Foreign Office. The Regional Medical Office's duties also cover a number of German embassies  in other countries in West-Africa. The RMO's tasks are to evaluate standards of medical care in the hospitals and to make contacts to capable local doctors, so that in a case of a medical emergency adequate emergency treatment is available and accessible. Furthermore, the Office treats the Embassy staff and in emergency cases, other German or EU-nationals.
